The Original Camp The original camp at Muriel
Minkowsky's current location on Lot #20 of the
original: 1948 St. Moritz Club
Plan
This is an image of the original camp brought
across the winter ice by William Bergin SR (standing on the porch) in or
about 1929. The camp was located at what would be described as Lot #20 on the
“1948 St. Moritz Club Plan”.
Note on the Plan small label “camp” in the upper right corner of the 1948 St.
Moritz Club Plan and as noted in the description of the Daken and Chick Deed to Maple Ridge
Island. This lot is now occupied by Muriel Minkowsky who shared all these
images. The Replacement Camp This image shows
the larger camp, at the same location, that replaced the camp shown
above. This camp later was placed on a
foundation and winterized and later expanded to become the current year-round
home of Muriel Minkowsky.
The Gagne Store The Gagne Shore, in 1940, was the location of the local “variety
store” with boat and camp rentals by the Gagne Summer Camps. See the Club
Card in the next two images celebrating 50 years of business from 1916
through 1956 by the Gagne Summer Camps operating as the Cobbossee Lake South
End Club.
This is another image of The Gagne Store taken
from a different angle.
A Cobbossey Lake South End Club Card This is an Image of a Club Card issued at
the Gagne Store by Adelard Gagne to Martin Bergin (son of William) for his
1968 membership in “The Cobbossey Lake South End Club” which celebratted its
50th year annaversary in
1966 after being active on the lake since 1916! That’s aproching 110 years of
history of activity around Maple Ridge Island at the time of this
documentation in December of 2025.
The 1965 Causeway Construction Image of the 1965 Construction
of the land bridge causeway connecting Maple Ridge Island to the mainland
with a passthrough culvert.
The culvert was later reinforced with a
concrete casting to keep it from wave action erosion.
Accidents
do happen as a construction truck rolls over into the lake!

The Causeway was near completion, summer
1965.
The Causeway has been substantially built
up since 1965 and was paved in sectiuoins one at a time and was finally
totally paved in 2022. The Maple Ridge
Island Association maintains the Causeway as part of Maple Ridge Drive and is
working to reinforce it with large anchor stones at the base of the shoreline
and with “Rip-Rap” above the base of the to hold up
the road shoulders of the Causeway and to limit wave erosion. Page File Information: |
